Santorini is one of the islands you have to see once in your life. This volcanic island is definitely worth a visit!

It is regarded as the last remaining piece of the lost world of Atlantis. The island was created 80.000 years ago, when the first volcanic eruption created the Stroggilli. It was first inhabited 2000 BC and is considered the bastion of Minoan civilisaton. A second eruption in 1450 BC completely destroyed the old island, causing a tidal wave to destroy most of the northern shores of Crete. In 304 AD Saint Irene of Thessaloniki was exiled here, and ever since the island has been called Santa Irini, or Santorini.

Its capital is the cosmopolitan Fira. This city offers an amazing view of the caldera. In the city centre, the museum of prehistoric Thira, the monastery of the Dominican nuns and the Cathedral Ypapanti are worth visiting.

A road of approximately 15 km will lead you to Oia, the most picturesque town of Santorini. Oia is famous for its narrow streets, beautiful small houses that look like they were made out of cake. From Oia, you can admire the world famous sunset.

Here, you have the possibility to swim (from the boat). Back in the harbour, you visit Fira and Oia.
